Neuropathy
What Is Neuropathy?
Neuropathy is a medical condition that refers to the damage or dysfunction of one or more nerves. This nerve damage typically leads to numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the affected areas. Most people experience neuropathy first in their hands and feet, but eventually experience it in other areas of the body.
Neuropathy is also known as peripheral neuropathy, which indicates that there is a problem with the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nervous system consists of a network of nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord, which is responsible for controlling the body’s functions. The peripheral nervous system is connected to the central nervous system and is responsible for ensuring that information signals are properly communicated to and from the brain and body.
Causes of Neuropathy
Neuropathy occurs when nerve cells called neurons are damaged or destroyed. In turn, this affects the way the neurons are able to communicate with other neurons and the brain. This condition can be inherited or caused by various medical conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammation, chemotherapy, diabetes, kidney failure, or statin drugs.
Symptoms of Neuropathy
While the symptoms vary for each person, here is a list of the most common neuropathy symptoms we observe at our Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti chiropractic office:

Know Your Treatment Options
If you have tried everything and still have not had any improvement, you may want to consider a proven peripheral neuropathy treatment. This specialized, advanced treatment does not require any harsh drugs or invasive procedures to be effective. Indeed, neuropathy treatment focuses on finding the root cause of your neuropathy, rather than masking it temporarily with medications and their known side effects. As you likely know, those medications can lead to additional health conditions that require even more medications.
